Tenorio Jr.

Brazilian bossa nova pianist and arranger, also known as Tenorinho; musician considered to have been one of the best exponents of samba-jazz. “Manos de oro (hands of gold), author of remarkable talent and enormous future”, as once described by Ruy Castro, one of the most renowned critics of bossa nova and Carioca culture.

Born on July 4, 1940 in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, Tenorio vanished on March 18, 1976 (age 35), abducted and presumed killed on March 25 as part of the purge of political opponents, student activists, journalists, and intellectuals in the context of the Brazilian military coup d’état of 1976. His body was ultimately identified by forensic experts on September 13, 2025 ending almost five decades of uncertainty.
